The 2015 Seminar on Climate Change and Climate Information Service for Developing Countries was Held in NUIST

On the morning of May 12th, The 2015 Seminar on Climate Change and Climate Information Service for Developing Countries, which was sponsored by Ministry of Commerce and undertook by WMO RTC Nanjing, was held in Nanjing University of Information and Science. Vice chancellor of NUIST, Li Gang, attended the ceremony and gave a welcome speech. Deputy Director of Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province Zhao Yuhong , Deputy Director of WMO RTC Nanjing Lei Zhaochong and the participants attended the ceremony. Executive Deputy Director of WMO RTC Nanjing Wang Suchun presided over the opening ceremony.

Vice chancellor of NUIST, Li Gang, gave a warm welcome to the participants and briefly introduced the history and subject of NUIST and WMO Regional Training Centre. He stated that The discipline of Atmospheric Science ranks No. 1 in the national discipline evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education of China in 2012, which has great influence in the world. There are now more than 600 international students from 96 countries studying at NUIST for bachelor, master and doctor’s degree. Since WMO RTC Nanjing was established in 1993, more than 2400 participants from 144 countries and regions have attended training programs organized by WMO RTC Nanjing. He wish this seminar will serve as a learning platform for participants to exchange the knowledge and information on climate change and climate information service,

Mrs. Zhao Yuhong also welcome the participants. As an official of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, she said, “Chinese government provide various assistants to other developing countries. I am especially hope that all participants here will be the envoy of friendship and keep in touch with us, so that we can promote and accelerate bilateral economic, technological exchange and cooperation between China and your countries.”
 
Mr. PHAKOE KUROANE SAMUEL who comes from Lesotho gave a speech on the ceremony. He is grateful to WMO RTC Nanjing greatly for providing the opportunity to exchange experience and get the new knowledge and skills. The subject of Climate Change is now a global issue. Many scientists believe that if the world doesn’t act in time on factors suspected to aggravating or causing Climate Change, cases of this extreme weather events will not only escalates but also intensify. This course is the effort which Chinese government made. He, on behalf of all the participants expressed gratitude to CMA, NUIST, WMO RTC Nanjing and Chinese Embassy in their countries.
 
This training course is the 87th international training course which held by WMO RTC Nanjing. There are 19 participants from 34 developing countries attending the training course and it will complete on June 24th. During the training period, the participants will also have study tour to Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
