International Training Course on Radar Meteorology was held in NUIST

On the morning of November 14th, the opening ceremony of International Training Course on Radar Meteorology was held in NUIST. The course was sponsored by China Meteorological Administration and held by WMO RTC Nanjing. 21 participants from 16 countries participated in this training course.
Professor Wang Suchun, Executive Deputy Director of WMO RTC, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, and Professor Lei Zhaochong, Deputy Director of WMO RTC, presided over the opening ceremony.
During the opening ceremony, Wang Suchun, Executive Deputy Director, warmly welcomed all participants, expressed gratitude to China Meteorological Administration for their long-term support and gave a brief introduction to the general conditions of NUIST and WMO RTC while looking back the teaching history of RTC. Then she clarified the importance of radar weather training, she said that since radar was invented in the 1930, it has become an important tool in meteorological observation. Animated radar images are now extensively used in weather parameter observation and forecast. Data from weather radar help meteorologists better understand the characteristics of weather systems and improve their forecast accuracy of severe weather events and their hazardous consequences.
And finally she hoped that as a learning and exchange platform, the seminar can actually contribute to capacity building-up of all radar meteorologists.
Mr. BANNA FAYSAL, from Lebanon, delivered a speech on behalf of all participants. He thanked the China Meteorological Administration and the World Meteorological Organization for full support, and appreciated WMO RTC for providing this chance which can be used to share working experience and learn new knowledge and skills.
