Seminar on Radar Meteorology for Developing Countries was Held at NUIST 

   On the morning of May 17th, the opening ceremony of “Seminar on Radar Meteorology for Developing Countries”, which was sponsored by Ministry of Commerce and undertook by WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center, was held at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology(NUIST). Director Yuan Jingyu, from International Department of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, attended the opening ceremony. Professor Niu Shengjie, Vice President of  NUIST made an address. The ceremony was hosted by Professor Wang Suchun, Deputy Director of WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center. It is said that there are 17 participants from 11 different countries attending this training course.
       Professor Niu Shengjie extended warm welcome and sincere greetings to trainees from different countries. He pointed out that weather radar becomes increasingly important in applying to meteorology and climate, especially to early warning and disaster prevention and mitigation. He hoped that this training course could be a platform for participants to exchange and communicate with each other. Afterwards, Director Yuan Jingyu introduced the characteristics of society, economy and culture in Jiangsu Province. “Science without borders”, mentioned by Director Yuan. He welcomed meteorologists from developing countries visiting China and Jiangsu to exchange meteorological techniques and experience.
         Ms. Francisca from Ghana, the representative of participants, made an address. She said that radar played a significant role in meteorological observation, predication and disaster prevention and mitigation while most developing countries were still in a poor situation in radar meteorology. Representing all participants, she extended her great thank to Chinese Government for the funding support and organization, and to WMO RTC Nanjing for the abundant preparation work for this training course.
