Training Course on Meteorological Hazards Early Warning for Developing Countries


Training Course on Meteorological Hazards Early Warning for Developing Countries will be organized by the WMO Regional Training Centre (RTC) Nanjing, China, and sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China.
1.       Objectives
Through the training, the participants will have a good understanding of the primary knowledge and have a good command of application of meteorological hazards early warning.
2.      Dates and Venue
October 12th-November 1st, 2012, WMO Regional Training Centre (RTC) Nanjing,China.
3.      Course Contents
The Training Course will brief participants with WMO Disaster Risk Reduction Programme; Emergency response and mitigation of natural disasters, and public meteorological service of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), including Shanghai Multi-hazard Early Warning System; Global observing system and monitoring of meteorological disasters; Fundamentals on Numerical Weather Prediction; Specific topics on early warning of major meteorological hazards(drought, flood, tropical cyclone, etc), including applications of remote sensing (satellite and radar) data; Brief introduction to China and Chinese culture. Meteorological practice and study tours are also included.
4.      Training Format
Seminars on special topics, practical sessions, discussions, participant’s presentation, etc.
5.      Language of Instruction
The course will be conducted in English.
6.      Targeted Trainees
Participants in the fields of meteorological warning and hazards management are invited. (Please refer to Para .8 for countries invited)
7Participant’s Qualifications for Admission
Participants are required:
1)      to be specialized in meteorology and with a minimum of one year professional experience;
2)      to be in good physical health with no infectious diseases. Physically fit to fulfill all course activities; candidates with limited physical mobility will not be accepted;
3)      to be proficient in English;
4)      not to bring family members to the training seminar in principle;
5)      to observe all the laws, rules and regulations of People’s Republic of China and respect the Chinese customs during the training period.

The applicants from the invited countries need contact the Economic & Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in the following countries:
